Digital Printing
Digital printing is a fresh printing technique for printing posters. It became popular around 1991, following the success of the IRIS printer. By the time other printing machines also became popular like Epson and Kodak.
Digital printing refers to the process of giving ink particles a charge, then directing the charge to the certain place being used.
Generally, digital printing is used for shorter runs, and less often for poster printing.
Lithographic Printing
Lithographic printing involves the usage of large steel plates spread with ink. This process is quite more expensive than digital poster printing but offers better quality for large applications.
Also, Pantone color can be specially mixed and used with maximum color matching. This varies from digital poster printing in that digital images must be converted from RGB to CMYK format; A color grading system that prints images with a mix of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.
With lithography printing, the colors of the posters are exact-match – Which makes lithography printing the method of choice for fine arts prints and large-scale posters.
Generally, lithography is used for high-volume printing runs, as well as books, maps, and packaging.
