Masked Stereolithography is the process in which an LED array is used as the light source that shines on the LCD screen. Then the LCD screen is used as a mask to create an image of each layer. This hardens the layer gradually.
Like DLP (Digital Light Processing), under certain circumstances, MSLA can print faster as compared to SLA (Stereolithography). This is because the complete layer is uncovered right away as opposed to a cross-sectional location with a laser pointer.
Advantages
It’s Affordable
If you produce the product in bulk, you will get it done at a low cost. Also, the powders and resins used in the process contribute less to the cost.
Process is Quick
The major advantage of stereolithography is that you can build the part in a short period of time. However, it depends on the size and the thickness of the layers. You can create parts within 24 hours.
High-Quality Part
MSLA is highly renowned for its accurate parts. The completed part has robust finishing as compared to the other 3D printing processes.
It Aids Prototyping
This process can also assist in detecting the design flaws before the manufacturing process starts. It can be a cost-effective option for the low-volume production of parts, providing a quick lead before making any mistake.
Disadvantages
Expensive Machines
The machines of the Stereolithography are expensive. Thus it is difficult for many companies to create their own prototypes with the Stereolithography process.
Photosensitive Resin is an Issue
Resins are the major factor with the MSLA as they must be handled in an appropriate way. The production should be carried out in the dark area. This will prevent the resin from being affected.
