At the request of their customers the admins can make changes into the order, from the backend. But why would you need to make changes in order? Most admins allow the customers to make changes in their order and preferences before the item is sent for preparation. Sometimes the customer gets the privilege to change the size, color or even cancel the order before it has been shipped. So, in such cases the admins can change the details of the order from the back-end directly.
After an order is placed the admins can generate an invoice at the time of delivery. An invoice is a time-stamped commercial document that itemizes and records a transaction between a buyer and a seller. If goods or services were purchased on credit, the invoice usually specifies the terms of the deal and provides information on the available methods of payment.
You can send the invoice as an email to your customer and even print it for your store. An invoice for an order can only be created once and cannot be edited. You can download it, duplicate it, share it via email at any point of time, even after years. But, you cannot recreate or edit it. To make changes into invoices you have to recreate the order and discard the previous one.
However it is important to note that the order needs to be reordered and edited. And these changes will be reflected in the new invoice and will not make changes in the old invoice. Admins can also discard the old invoice and keep the new one and send it to the customer via email or at the time of shipment.
Summary being, that an invoice once generated cannot be edited.
