Product categories are used to group your products systematically into various categories. Therefore, managing product categories is essential. The categories can be defined and managed in the backend by the admins.
- From the Magento back-end left panel navigate to Catalog ➤ Categories.
- This will open a default category page, where all the categories would be listed in the left column.
- Here, you can add new categories as well as sub-categories.
E.g. In the above image “Winter wear” has been added as a new root category.
To add new category:
- Click on the “Add Root Category” button.
- This will redirect you to the new category page.
- Enter the Category name.
- Enable the “Product Category” button to show the category on your store-front.
- Enable the “Include in Menu” button to make the category visible in the menu-bar of the front end.
- Content: Add all the related details of the category like category image, description and CMS block.
- Display Settings: With the help of these settings you’ll be able to control the store-front display and listings of your categories. Add display mode, sort the product listings as per your choice and make other display settings.
- Search Engine Optimization: Enter all the URL related details, keywords, titles here.
- Products in category: Select all the products that you want to display in this category.
- Design: Add the details related to the theme, layout and parent category settings in this section.
- Schedule design updates: You can set an update date for your store-front with the help of this section.
- After adding all these details, click Save.
- You can also delete the category with the help of the”delete” button.
- You can make each category a subcategory of another category easily by performing a simple drag and drop.
- As soon as you finish saving the categories, it will immediately be visible on your store-front.
